Don't smoke
The best plan for longevity is to follow all four points. But if you have to choose only one, let it be quitting smoking. Smoking affects the coronary arteries and lungs, smokers also have an increased risk of developing cancer and stroke, experts remind.
Maintain a healthy weight
It is desirable that the mass index body mass index (BMI) – a value that allows you to assess the degree of correspondence between a person's weight and growth – was less than 25. And to achieve and maintain this indicator, lifestyle changes and two other good habits will help.
Move more
Try to be active for at least half an hour a day most days of the week. You can break these 30 minutes into three 10-minute periods of daily activity. This could be, for example, a 10-minute walk in the morning, followed by a walk at lunch and after dinner.
Make healthy food choices
Healthy eating also promotes longevity. For example, research has shown that one of the most popular diets, the Mediterranean, when combined with regular exercise, a healthy weight and quitting smoking, reduces the risk of heart disease. It involves a reduction in red meat in the diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and olive oil, fish, carbohydrates from whole grains.
