4 key habits to live longer

Many scientists agree that lifestyle directly affects its duration. One of the largest studies in this field was conducted by specialists from Harvard Medical School. They concluded that longevity can be ensured by proper nutrition, regular physical activity, a healthy weight and giving up bad habits.
The results of the study were published in the BMJ. In particular, scientists have found that following these four rules reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
“This study has proven that by following a healthy lifestyle, you can significantly extend the years of life without chronic diseases,” the experts noted.
The researchers studied health data from 73,196 women collected over 34 years, as well as health data from 38,366 men obtained over 26 years. Healthy eating was determined by the Alternate Healthy Eating Index; regular physical exercise – at least 30 minutes a day of moderate or vigorous activity; healthy weight – body mass index of 18.5-24.9 kg/m2; and moderate alcohol consumption – up to one drink per day for women and up to two for men.
The results showed that women who maintained the four healthy habits at age 50 lived an average of 34.4 years longer without chronic disease, compared to 23.7 years for women who did not maintain a healthy lifestyle. For men, these figures were 31.1 and 23.5 years, respectively.
