American nutritionist Brigitte Zeitlin spoke in the press with a recommendation to fill the calcium deficit not only with milk. According to the expert, there are other healthy products that can contain even more calcium than milk.
Salmon. 200 grams of salmon is 400 mg of calcium. 200 g of canned salmon is 500 mg of calcium. This type of fish is also rich in vitamin D, which is necessary for the absorption of calcium.
Sardines. Another super-healthy product that has more calcium than milk. 100 grams of sardines contain almost 430 mg of calcium.
Chickpeas. This relative of legumes is also characterized by a high calcium content. One glass of chickpeas contains more than 300 mg of calcium.
Ricotta. Nutritionists advise eating ricotta cheese with blueberries, peaches, pears, oranges or almonds – this way the body will get more calcium. Like all the products listed above, ricotta also contains a lot of protein.
“The daily calcium intake should be from 1000 to 1200 mg. A glass of milk contains about 300 mg of calcium. It would seem that you can take calcium in pills, but studies have shown that people who take such supplements have a twofold increased risk of heart attack,” the expert noted.
