5 home remedies that can be more dangerous than the diseases themselves

The main commandment of any treatment: do no harm!
It is difficult to count how many home remedies there are in general, because for every case of malaise or external defect there are always several home recipes. Experts warn that some types of home therapy can be more dangerous than the diseases themselves.
For example, doctors strongly recommend not using lemon juice at home to whiten teeth. The result of this fight against dark enamel can be the appearance of cavities and increased tooth sensitivity. Also, dark spots may appear on the teeth over time.
Another type of home treatment that is dangerous is the use of oil for burns. Doctors warn that a burn is, first and foremost, an open wound, and applying oil to it can lead to the penetration of microorganisms and the development of infection.
In no case should you use such a home method as kerosene for sore throats. Adherents of “folk medicine” recommend using kerosene diluted with water to rinse and lubricate the throat for sore throats. Experts note that the consequences of such procedures can be liver damage and poisoning of the body, since kerosene is actively absorbed into the blood through the mucous membranes. Doctors also condemn such a type of home treatment as blows with young nettle. It is believed that this helps with radiculitis, osteochondrosis, varicose veins. But procedures with nettle are by no means safe – burns on the skin from it in many cases lead to allergic reactions: redness, itching, swelling occur. In the worst case scenario, angioedema may develop, which can be fatal without timely medical attention.
In addition, experts advise against using turpentine to treat arthritis, arthrosis, sciatica, or cardiovascular diseases. Turpentine baths are used in medicine, but it is dangerous to practice such baths at home. With an excess of turpentine in the water, symptoms such as rapid heartbeat and increased histamine production occur. The consequences of these processes can be a severe allergic reaction, eczema, and other skin diseases, as well as poisoning, arrhythmia, and stroke.
