5 signs of a possible stroke that require immediate medical attention

One of the warning signs of a stroke is sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg.

About 87% of strokes occur when blood flow through an artery that supplies oxygen-rich blood to the brain is blocked. There are a number of signs that indicate pathology, reports Express.

Weakness. One symptom that signals that you need to seek immediate medical attention is sudden, unexpected weakness felt on one side of the body.

“A sign of a stroke is sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) postulates.

Balance disorders.A person with a stroke may have impaired walking, dizziness, loss of balance, and unsteadiness (he may fall). Often, such a manifestation of a stroke is perceived by others as drunken behavior.

Cognitive failure. The victim “falls out of content” – feels confused, disoriented, looks lost, cannot say anything clearly, to answer the question, he has difficulty understanding speech.

Problems with vision. With a stroke, they wear sudden character. Suddenly the vision ceases to be clear or may disappear altogether.

Headache. A headache may appear suddenly – very strong: it is often described as unbearable, tearing the head.

The CDC reminded that the most effective medical care for a stroke is only if it is detected within three hours after the first symptoms appear.

People who have suffered stroke, are at high risk of recurrent stroke: one in four stroke survivors will have another stroke within five years.
