6 evergreen flowering shrubs for the garden

Evergreen shrubs have many advantages over other garden plants. Most, writes PureWow, of them are long-lived and do not require constant care after planting. In addition, such representatives of the flora decorate the garden all year round.

Details

  • Azalea. Such a plant can be both evergreen and deciduous (drops leaves) depending on the variety. Azalea has amazingly beautiful flowers of various shades – purple, pink, orange, yellow. The shrub is also valued for its lush and dense dark green leaves, which do not lose their color all year round. Some species of azalea can bloom twice in a season.
  • Gardenia. This evergreen flowering shrub is quite temperamental, but after mastering the technique of caring for it, this plant will become a real decoration of the garden. Gardenia can be planted in acidic soil in regions with mild winters or in a pot that needs to be moved to a house or greenhouse during cold weather. In the warm season, the shrub is covered with white flowers that emit a pleasant aroma. The plant loves warmth and sunlight.
  • Daphne. An unusual flowering shrub, distinguished by thin, elongated leaves and an interesting shape of flowers. Daphne can be grown in climates with mild winters. The flowers of this evergreen plant bloom at the end of winter – at the beginning of spring. Their shade is most often purple or pink.
  • Although pierislesser known than other evergreen flowering plants, it has very beautiful clusters of bell-shaped flowers that appear in late winter or early spring. The shrub has long, pointed leaves and bright red flowers of a similar shape. It is better to plant Pieris in an area in the garden where the sun does not reach in the morning.
  • Oleander. A suitable plant for beginner gardeners who know little about soil types and may forget about care and watering. The only thing that oleander cannot withstand is a cold winter, when the temperature drops below 6°C. However, the shrub is able to grow in difficult soil and in conditions of intense heat. Evergreen oleander has beautiful pink flowers that bloom in warm weather.
  • Photinia 'Red Robin'. Bright red flowers decorate the garden every spring, and rich dark green leaves delight the eye all year round. The shrub grows quite quickly and annually adds from 30 to 90 cm in height, while it easily adapts and can be maintained in a low state. Photinia is good to grow as a hedge.
