Consuming these fruits protects against exacerbations of arthritis, British experts note.
Arthritis is an inflammatory disease that occurs due to a malfunction in the immune system (rheumatoid arthritis), or due to a previous infection – urogenital, intestinal (reactive arthritis). Experts said that it is useful for patients with arthritis to eat the following fruits.
Red apples. Red apples are rich in the antioxidant quercetin, which is involved in the production of collagen, a protein necessary for good skin, joint cartilage and ligaments. Collagen also plays the role of a “shock absorber” in the joints, allowing them to withstand shocks and pressure. Quercetin is found in apple skin – the richer its color, the more of this element in the apple.
Avocado. Including it in your diet, according to scientists, significantly reduces the symptoms of arthritis – avocado increases the collagen content in tissues, relieves inflammation. For the prevention and treatment of arthritis and arthrosis, experts recommend eating at least a quarter of an avocado every day.
Watermelon.Due to the fact that watermelon is 90% water, it is effective as a diuretic and activates the excretion of harmful and unwanted components from the body. Carotenoids and flavonoids, which are part of watermelon, have powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Watermelon is recommended by doctors for diseases such as arthritis and atherosclerosis.
Cherry. Scientists have found that drinking cherry juice twice a day for three weeks significantly reduces inflammation in patients with arthritis. Cherries are rich in powerful antioxidants anthocyanins – they have anti-inflammatory properties and are effective in fighting pain.
Strawberries. It was experimentally found that women who ate more than 16 strawberries per week had low levels of C-reactive protein, which is a marker of inflammation and increases in connection with exacerbation of arthritis and cardiovascular diseases.
Pineapple. Its pulp contains the enzyme bromelain, which has the property of reducing joint pain. Pineapple is also rich in vitamin C, which promotes collagen synthesis. To make pineapple use effective, experts advise eating it twice a week for 150-200 grams.
