General Director of One Year No Beer Ruari Fairburns has warned that drinking more than 14 drinks a week can lead to health problems, so drinking in moderation is a good idea.
“A good first step is to have an end goal in mind,” said Fairburns. “Quit or cut back on alcohol for one month, three months, or a year.” Fairburns suggests setting 'achievable, realistic goals' to achieve your ultimate goal.”
Another piece of advice:
“Keep attractive soft drinks at home.”
Soft drinks – a great option for people who want to enjoy drinking alcohol without the actual alcohol content.
It is also recommended to rethink your routine after work.
“After a busy day at work, you may be tempted to drink a glass of wine or a beer to relax,” Fairburns said.
Change that daily after-work drinking habit with another activity. Other activities, instead of drinking alcohol, could include: a relaxing bath, a walk nearby or a soft drink.
Fearburns added that people should not feel obligated to drink just because others do.
“You have to avoid people who try to force you to drink when you don't want to,” he said. “Practice assertiveness, say 'no' and, at worst, get out of situations that make you uncomfortable.”
