Your diet can play a huge role in different conditions. A healthy diet can lower your risk of health problems, while certain foods can increase your chances of developing the culprits. A cardiologist advises you to avoid breakfast cereals with added sugar if you are trying to keep your blood pressure within normal limits. In the interview, he gave other tips to help hypertensives.
While starting the day with a quick fix in the form of cereal is popular for many, your body may not appreciate this choice.
“ Avoid breakfast cereals with added sugar or add extra sugar on top,” says the cardiologist.
This explains why adding sugar to your favorite breakfast option can lead to high blood pressure.
“Foods with added sugar are usually high in calories, but often have little or no nutritional value. The extra energy can cause you to gain weight, which can raise your blood pressure. It can also lead to diabetes. High blood pressure and diabetes increase your risk of heart disease and stroke, especially if you have both at the same time.”
Indeed, even low-sugar cereal can raise your blood sugar, so that they usually consist mostly of refined carbohydrates, and most people consume two to four times the recommended serving size.
If you don't want to skip breakfast, it's recommended that you opt for fruit instead of cereal.
