Researchers from King's College London found that regular consumption of a small amount of almonds is effective in terms of protection against the development of colorectal cancer.
Intestinal cancer is one of the most actively growing types of cancer today: the number of its cases increases annually, which is largely associated with sedentary lifestyle of modern people and their passion for processed foods (primarily meat).
A study by scientists from the King's College London showed that a daily handful of almonds reduces the risk of colon cancer – with assimilation of nuts releases a substance that heals the digestive tract.
“It has been proven that splitting almonds releases butyrate, a type of beneficial short-chain fatty acid. “Butyrate has a potential protective effect against colon cancer,” said lead study author Kevin Whelan, professor of dietetics. In addition, nuts provide the body with protein, vitamins and trace elements that help to strengthen health in general.
