Eating chocolate in the morning lowers blood glucose levels. Scientists came to this conclusion in the course of a new study that studied the effect of daily chocolate consumption on metabolism in women.
According to scientists, eating dessert in the morning or in the evening/at night can have different effects on energy balance and weight bodies This is associated with changes in energy intake, microbiota and circadian rhythm.
In a randomized controlled trial, the results of which were published in the FASEB Journal of Experimental Biology, participants were divided into three groups. One group ate 100 g of chocolate in the morning for two weeks, the second in the evening or at night, and the third was a control.
As a result, it was found that eating chocolate for 14 days did not lead to an increase in body weight, but reduced the feeling hunger and the desire to eat other sweets during the day.
In addition, it was established that in the first group, the fasting blood glucose level decreased (4.4%) and lipid oxidation increased (25.6%). At the same time, women who consumed 100 g of chocolate in the evening improved their sleep patterns.
“In conclusion, it should be noted that eating chocolate in the morning or in the evening/night has different effects on the feeling of hunger and appetite, oxidation of substrates, fasting glucose level, microbiota (composition and functions), as well as sleep rhythms and temperature,” the scientists said. The results show that the time of eating is an important factor that should be taken into account in energy balance and metabolism, experts added.
