A doctor warned about foods and drinks that interfere with falling asleep in old age

Dietitian: eating fatty and fried foods prevents older people from falling asleep normally.

The specialist said in an interview that the last meal of the day should be eaten 4 or 3 hours before going to bed. If you start to feel hungry after a while after dinner, you can satisfy it with a light snack.

“Immediately half an hour before bedtime, you can drink half a glass of fermented milk drink or eat yogurt without additives and sugar,” the doctor said.

The doctor advised the elderly to refrain from eating fried and fatty foods in the evening.

Too fatty, fried, high-calorie foods, for example, with mayonnaise dressings, overload the gastrointestinal tract. These products will disrupt the sleep of an elderly person, because at night the digestive system will continue to work.

The nutritionist also warned about drinks that interfere with falling asleep in old age. In order not to worsen sleep, it is better not to drink coffee or tea in the evening, the doctor emphasized. She added that late at night, on the eve of sleep, you need to be careful about drinking even plain water – if drunk in large quantities, it will create a burden on the kidneys, which can provoke night awakenings due to the need to go to the toilet, with the subsequent inability to fall asleep again.

The nutritionist summarized: it is better to drink any drinks during the active phase of the day, to allow the body to get rid of waste products in time.
