A famous hotel was built in its place: there was once a cozy square in the center of Kyiv

Thanks to archival photos, you can not only see what Khreschatyk was like at the end of the 19th century, but and find out what the streets of the beloved city were like before it was built with high-rise buildings. In particular, there was once a cozy square on the site of the famous hotel “Dnipro”.

The photo was published on the Facebook page of the “Club of Native Kiyanin”.

“1950s. A cozy square, on the site of which the Dnipro hotel will be built in the future,” the message says.

The photo shows paths, beautifully decorated flower beds, a tram, and people walking around Kyiv.

It is worth noting that the Dnipro hotel was built in 1964 at the beginning of Khreschatyk, on the European Square, next to state institutions, the Dynamo stadium, the National Philharmonic and the picturesque Khreschatyk Park. The restaurant at the Dnipro Hotel has an interior and design designed by architect Irma Karakis.

Currently it is a four-star hotel, which until July 2020 was under the legal jurisdiction of the State Administration of Affairs. In 2020, it was sold to the Ukrainian private company Smartland LLC for 1.111 billion hryvnias. The starting price was 80.9 million hryvnias.

Hotel “Dnipro” has 186 comfortable rooms with 288 beds. At guests' disposal are restaurants (Ukrainian and European cuisine), bar, service desk, business center, meeting rooms, conference halls, SPA center, car rental.
