A fifth of adults have mental health problems

Scientists analyzed data collected over the past four decade of more than 28,000 adults who took part in three British cohort studies.

They examined participants' self-reports of their mental health between the ages of 23 and 69 to understand the level of psychological stress in mature age and how they differed between generations.

In all three cohorts and at any age, the level of psychological stress among women was higher than among men.
