A handful of nuts every day prevents dementia

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) reports that a Mediterranean diet based on whole grains , fish, legumes, fruits and vegetables, and the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet.

“Both diets are supported by many studies that show they can help your heart health, and some evidence that they can help reduce the rate of mental decline,” the British Heart Foundation (BHF) reports.

The diet names 10 foods associated with improving or slowing cognitive decline, and five foods that which should be limited.

Nuts are on a list of foods that can boost your brain if eaten most days.

The BHF says other foods include:

  • Whole grains (three or more servings per day)
  • Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, spring greens, kale, and lettuce
  • Other vegetables (one or several servings per day)
  • Beans and lentils
  • Berries, including blueberries and strawberries
  • Chicken or turkey
  • Fish< /li>
  • Olive oil

Some risk factors for dementia, such as age and genetics, cannot be changed, but research shows that other risk factors may also be important and can be changed .

Alzheimer's (AS) says that although aging is the biggest risk factor for developing dementia, evidence shows that there are things you can do to reduce your own risk.

To these include staying active, eating healthy, drinking less alcohol, and quitting smoking.
