A hidden danger: the coffee habit increases the risk of developing cancer
1
Scientists and doctors claim that coffee in moderate amounts reduces inflammation and abdominal fat, reduces the risk of dementia. However, adding artificial sweeteners to the morning drink not only reduces the benefits of coffee, but also threatens the development of such a dangerous disease as cancer.
A recent study revealed a link between the use of artificial sugar substitutes and cancer. The authors analyzed data from nearly 103,000 French adults who self-reported their health status, medical history, if any, socio-demographic data, diet and lifestyle information. During the follow-up, the experts collected information about the cancer diagnosis and studied the hidden connection.
The scientists concluded that the subjects who consumed more artificial sweeteners had a higher risk of cancer than those whose diet food did not contain these substances. Aspartame and acesulfame potassium (acesulfame K), which are much sweeter than regular sugar, but have the advantage of being low-calorie, are particularly dangerous.
The greatest risk was observed among those who like to sweeten coffee or any other drink with an artificial additive development of breast cancer and obesity-related cancer. Therefore, the authors of the study dispute the popular opinion that such sweeteners can be a safe alternative to sugar in food or drinks.
People often drink coffee with cream. But many store-bought creams contain a large amount of artificial sugar substitutes. According to the study, both liquid and powdered creams contain harmful acesulfame potassium.
