A man with an abnormally long thumb spoke about his daily difficulties

In 2019, Jacob Pina created an account on TikTok, where he first showed his pathology. Today, he has over 2.8 million subscribers who follow everything the American publishes with interest.

25-year-old Jacob Pina from Massachusetts became famous online for the fact that his right thumb is abnormally long and reaches almost 13 cm. According to the Daily Mail, the young man is the owner of the largest finger in the world, although he is not listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

After Jacob signed up for TikTok in 2019 on the advice of a friend, where he began to demonstrate his pathology, his popularity has grown dramatically and today he has over 2.8 million subscribers.

In Pina's videos, he shows how he uses everyday things, such as his phone, and talks about the difficulties he faces. For example, his finger when extended is only slightly shorter than an iPhone 16, which makes it difficult, for example, to type and send messages.

He recently demonstrated how to scroll through social media on a smartphone. The clip, which has racked up nearly 100,000 views, shocked and confused viewers. Many wondered if it was edited or if the severe stretch was painful.

About one in ten Americans have very flexible or elastic joints, also known as hypermobile joints. They are linked to several genetic and autoimmune diseases. One of the most well-known is hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (HEDS), a genetic disorder that affects the body's connective tissues that provide structure to organs and help bones stay together.

HEDS affects one in 5,000-20,000 Americans, including celebrities like Billie Eilish and Lena Dunham. It causes joints that are overly flexible and often painful, elastic skin, and frequent dislocations.

However, doctors can’t explain Pina’s case. While hypermobility is linked to genetic disorders, Jacob says he has no underlying health issues that could explain his thumb.

“It’s been a positive experience having a long thumb. It’s never stopped me from doing anything. And sharing it on TikTok has brought me so many followers who are thumb enthusiasts all over the world,” the man admitted.

Jacob says he also has a long thumb on his left hand, but it’s shorter than his right. Since his right hand is dominant, it’s naturally the one he shows off most on social media.
