Narcologist Ilya Kisler talked about ways to quickly get rid of a hangover. He also named popular methods that don't really work.
The expert notes that hangover syndrome manifests itself differently in everyone, and is influenced by many factors, including age, the intensity of dehydration, worsening well-being and drinking alcohol on an empty stomach. To cope with a hangover as quickly as possible, a narcologist recommends drinking more fluids.
This should be done even if a person is nauseous, just periodically and in small sips. Alkaline mineral water will work better than ordinary water. Due to the salt content, it helps restore electrolyte imbalance in the body. Normalization of electrolyte levels is also possible with cucumber brine, this is relevant only if there is no vomiting.
An effective solution would be to drink water with honey or sugar, or a not very strong sweet and warm tea. Sugar acts as a detoxifying agent, which is great for treating a hangover.
You can put a cold towel on your head. It would be useful to sleep for at least an hour after a person has sobered up. If you feel more or less normal, the expert advises eating something light, but it is better to avoid fatty, fried or spicy foods.
Among the fastest ways to combat a hangover, Kiesler highlighted gastric lavage, taking activated charcoal, and a shower will also help you to cheer up. You can lie on the couch with a cold compress on your forehead for at least 15 minutes.
If you need to go somewhere, it is better to have breakfast, otherwise you will feel unwell all day. During a hangover, you should not drink alcohol again, as some advise. This only worsens your well-being and prevents your body from recovering. You should not take hangover pills on your own, you can do this only on the recommendation of a doctor. Coffee has a diuretic effect, so it will increase dehydration.
