A new camp for Russian prisoners of war has appeared in Ukraine: what is provided
0 < p>A new camp for Russian prisoners of war called “Center-5” was opened in Ukraine. This became necessary due to the fact that the number of Russian military personnel who are surrendered to the Armed Forces every month significantly exceeds the number of those whom Russia returns as part of exchanges.
The message states that the Center-5 camp meets all the requirements of international humanitarian law: separate sleeping places, three hot meals, showers with hot water, and access to medical care are provided here.
A special feature of Center-5 ” is the availability of conditions for keeping wounded prisoners of war, in particular amputees, bedridden patients and those with various diseases. The “I want to live” project explains that the Russian side refuses to return precisely such disabled and sick prisoners of war.
At the same time, Ukraine complies with all its obligations under the Geneva Conventions and provides maximum openness in the treatment of prisoners of war. International observers and the media can visit the Center-5 camp and other places where Russian prisoners of war are held.
Ukraine continues to demand from Russia a similar treatment of Ukrainian prisoners and the fulfillment of its obligations. Among the main demands: the admission of representatives of the ICRC to Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Russian Federation, an end to the detention of prisoners in colonies and basements, an end to torture and recruitment, as well as ensuring the ability to receive letters and parcels.
