The expert noted that you should not drink coffee in the morning on an empty stomach. It is better to do it together with food or after eating.
“Coffee stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid. If you drink coffee on an empty stomach, the production of gastric juice will begin to digest food, and there is no food,” the doctor explained. She added that it can cause discomfort, pain and heartburn in people with gastrointestinal problems, as well as in those who are prone to high stomach acidity, especially if they have gastritis.
According to the nutritionist, it is better do not replace a cup of coffee with a meal, for example, lunch, as the diet should be balanced. “Coffee can be a snack option if you choose, for example, between it and a bun. We will dull hunger, get fats. But the main meal should be balanced – with proteins, fats, carbohydrates and vitamins,” said the specialist.
As for drinking coffee in the evening, it is not suitable for everyone. The drink has a stimulating effect, so it is not recommended to drink it 3-4 hours before bedtime. And for people with sleep disorders and anxious people, it is better to leave only morning coffee.
