Nutritionist Kylie Sakaida is sure that completely giving up sweets and other foods that are considered harmful is not always a practical and healthy approach to proper nutrition.
Sakaida opposed traditional advice on proper nutrition, which divides foods into harmful and healthy. She urged to focus on the balance of the menu and not focus on the properties of individual components. “If you're eating pizza, for example, add vegetables like bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms and eggplant to increase the fiber and nutrients in your diet. If you eat cereal, add milk to it to get more protein and nuts, which contain healthy fats,” advised the nutritionist.
According to Sakaida, even waffles with sweet sauce won't hurt if do not eat them every day and combine them with nutritious foods – fruits, nuts or yogurt. “I am not suggesting that waffles are objectively the healthiest choice or that this dish has remarkable health benefits. Rather, it is about recognizing the fact that complete rejection of unhealthy food is not always practical or useful,” said the nutritionist.
The specialist recommended to eat more fiber every day, which is necessary for normal digestion, the correct functioning of the heart and healthy gut microbiome. A sufficient amount of protein must also be present in the diet, as it gives a feeling of satiety and plays an important role in the restoration and construction of all body tissues.
