The key rule for type 2 diabetes is proper nutrition. While some foods are recommended by doctors to be excluded from the diet, others should be added due to their ability to lower blood glucose levels. One of them is ginseng.
Scientists have found that ginseng reduces blood sugar levels as early as 30 minutes after eating. Experts came to this conclusion during an eight-week study. The experiment was completed by 24 people with type 2 diabetes.
All participants were divided into two groups. One of them consumed 3 g of ginseng extract daily, and the other – a placebo. As a result, scientists found that when consumed on an empty stomach, ginseng significantly reduced blood glucose levels after a meal. “These studies show that American ginseng extract is effective and safe as an additional agent in the treatment of type 2 diabetes,” the scientists said.
In addition, it was found that the plant extract reduced the level of glycated hemoglobin and systolic blood pressure. However, experts emphasized that larger studies are needed to confirm the results.
