Diet soda is perceived by many as a healthier option, because it contains fewer calories. To make it sweet, manufacturers use sweeteners.
A study conducted by the University of Southern California showed that drinking diet soda is not the best option. It is better to switch to tea.
Earlier it was assumed that artificial sweeteners can stimulate appetite, and a study by American scientists confirmed it. 74 adults were included in the study. Half consumed diet drinks with sucrose, and half with the sweetener sucralose.
Researchers monitored appetite stimulation. The results showed that the men tended to consume about the same number of calories regardless of whether they drank drinks with sucrose or sucralose. However, the effect on women was different. They consumed more calories if they drank a drink with sucralose before meals.
