On average, an adult needs to sleep every day for about 8 hours – during this time the body is able to fully restore its strength. If a person constantly sleeps much more, and at the same time still wants to sleep, this may indicate health problems.
In an interview, a neurologist and somnologist noted that such a state can be considered the norm, if we are talking about the consequences of a lack of sleep or a violation of the regime.
In other cases, prolonged sleep may indicate hypersomnia or depression. “In the first case, it is a separate layer of diseases associated with sleep disorders that must be treated. In the second case, with depression, there is an increased need for sleep and staying in bed, a loss of interest in external life due to concentration on the internal,” the doctor explained.
She added that both conditions require consultation with a specialist. “Both depression and hypersomnia are very serious conditions that many underestimate,” the doctor concluded.
