A simple drink can have a positive effect on insulin resistance

Diabetes of the second type (non-insulin dependent) develops against the background inability of the body to effectively use insulin produced by cells of the pancreas. Special attention is paid to diet in this disease.
Its purpose is to reduce insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels. Scientists have discovered a number of useful products that can provide the desired effect. One of them is green tea.
A corresponding study was published in the Iranian Journal of Medical Sciences. 100 patients with type 2 diabetes participated in the experiment, which was conducted under the supervision of the Yazd Diabetic Research Center. They were divided into two groups: one used the so-called sour tea (karkade), the other – green.
Patients were recommended to drink 150 ml of sour or green tea three times a day for four weeks. They measured fasting blood sugar, lipid profiles, a homeostasis assessment model for insulin resistance, insulin sensitivity and other parameters.
In both groups, the level of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) – “good” cholesterol – increased significantly. Median fasting blood insulin showed a significant decrease (from 8.5 to 6.6 μIU/ml) in those who consumed green tea. The median index of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in the group that consumed green tea also showed lower levels.
As scientists note, both types of tea have a beneficial effect on patients with type 2 diabetes. But green tea has a better effect on insulin resistance indicators.
