In general, in almost 21,000 people took part in the study. Their average age was 65.4 years, 72.6% had a history of stroke, and 88.4% had hypertension. Average follow-up was 4.7 years.
In study participants aged 60 and older with high blood pressure and those who had had a stroke, rates of stroke and death from of any cause was lower when taking a salt substitute than when using regular salt.
