Longevity is influenced by not only genetics, but also lifestyle. In particular, it was found that a certain exercise – running – can increase life expectancy by three years.
According to the results of the study, even five minutes of running a day is enough to live longer. The 15-year experiment involved 55,137 people aged 18 to 100.
As a result, it was found that runners had a 30% and 45% lower risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease. respectively compared to those who did not run. Moreover, life expectancy increased even if the participants ran for only 5-10 minutes a day.
Later, scientists from the University of Iowa published in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Disease the results of new work, according to which jogging, regardless of pace, can reduce the risk of premature death by almost 40%. In addition, researchers found that one hour of running equates to an additional seven hours of life.
In addition, scientists found that other types of physical exercise can also increase life expectancy, but not to the same extent as running. For example, walking, cycling usually reduced the risk of premature death by about 12%.
