In an experiment involving people with type 2 diabetes who suffer from hypertension, it was found that after eating at least one cup of legumes every day for three months, systolic blood pressure dropped by 4.5 mm Hg, and diastolic blood pressure by 4.5 mm Hg. by 3.1 mm Hg.
Another study found that soluble fiber in chickpeas helps balance cholesterol levels, preventing atherosclerosis. In addition, chickpeas also improve serum lipid levels, according to the Elsevier Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
