She was born on a corn farm and grew up on two foods – milk and spinach. Now the woman may be the oldest person living in the world, but her record has not yet been recorded anywhere.
Joanna Mazibuko, a resident of the North-West Province of the Republic of South Africa, celebrated her 128th birthday. She was born on May 11, 1894 and was the eldest of 12 siblings, three of whom are still alive.
Although the woman does not remember her childhood well, she will not forget the time when the farms were swarmed with locusts. According to her, there were insects that you could catch and eat after frying.
But mostly her diet when she was growing up consisted of fresh milk and wild spinach. Joanna credits these two products as one of the secrets to her longevity. At the same time, the South African admitted that now she eats modern food.
“When you don't have money, you suffer. On farms, we lived off what we grew. We also received rations. At the end of the year, we would get bags of maize, then we would go and sell them and make money,” said the long-time resident.
Joanna married an elderly widower named Stavan Mazibuko at an age she cannot remember. He had a team of horses and cows. The woman milked the cows and made oil for sale. She admits that she did not need anything for marriage.
The long-lived woman had seven children, two of whom are alive today. In addition, she has about 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Now the woman can't hear well, but can see and even move around the house a little.
The mayor of the city where the 128-year-old South African woman lives said that the municipality gave her a sofa for her birthday. He is also working to enter Joanna's name in the Guinness Book of Records.
“We did research to find out who is the oldest. We can't find anyone her age. We have her ID that says that. We should try to enter it into the Guinness Book of Records so that it can be properly celebrated,” said the mayor.
