A threat to the brain: one of the worst habits has been revealed

Vitamins play the most important role in normal functioning body When it comes to brain health, doctors most often recommend eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and vitamin B12.

However, a recent study found that there is another important vitamin, a deficiency which negatively affects the work of this organ.

According to a scientific work published in the Evidence Based Mental Health journal, it is about vitamin B9 (folic acid). According to scientists, the habit of excluding this nutrient from the diet can lead to dementia.

By studying the medical records of more than 27,000 people aged 60 to 75, researchers found that those who were deficient in folate acid, “were 68% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia.”

As Dr. Lisa Jung explained, folic acid is crucial for the functioning of the nervous system, and in the elderly, B9 deficiency contributes to accelerated brain aging. At the same time, “too much folic acid in the body can mask a B12 deficiency,” Young warned. To add more vitamin B9 to the diet, Yang advised to regularly consume fruits, vegetables and legumes.
