Stress can make overeating a real addiction, which will have to be dealt with as a separate problem. Psychologist Nataliya Varska told how you can resist such a harmful urge.
The expert explained that an excessive passion for food is a subconscious attempt to “extinguish” stress. There are such advanced cases that only a specialist can solve the problem. A person who “eats” stress, as a rule, is prone to various addictions, but the passion for food turns out to be the most accessible of them. “What does she get from food? Pleasure. Just like all other addicted people. A person is a hormone factory. These processes – psychological, endocrine, hormonal – are always together,” said Varska.
The psychologist suggests trying to use simple alternative methods to relieve stress – to look for something else that also produces hormones of pleasure, but does not cause harm. Among such things: being in nature, active types of entertainment, etc.
