A weak handshake can be a symptom of a dangerous disease
The force with which a person shakes the hand of an interlocutor when meeting speaks not only about his personal qualities and strength of character, but can also be a sign of a serious illness. Scientists from the University of Bristol and Eastern Finland made this conclusion by measuring the muscle strength of hand compression among 776 volunteers.
They found that people with weak muscle grip are more likely to develop diabetes. One of the authors of the study, Dr. Setor Kunutsor, believes that the method of detecting this disease by testing muscle function is simple and cheap. This method can be used to detect a predisposition to type 2 diabetes.
Scientists claim that the force of hand compression is halved with the risk of the disease. It is noted that the connection between the strength of the handshake and the development of diabetes remained even when other factors were taken into account, such as age, genetics, physical activity, smoking, hypertension, and the presence of excess weight. Moreover, such a test gives the most probable result among women.
