The appearance of a white coating on the tongue can be explained by a fungal infection or disorders in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, doctors warn.
In an interview with therapist Shot Kalandia, dangerous disorders in the body, a sign of which is a white coating on the tongue, were listed. The doctor noted that the appearance of such plaque is facilitated by accumulations that occur between the papillae of the tongue and the state of microparticles of microorganisms, food, and waste cells.
“In most cases, plaque on the tongue does not cause any complaints, but these changes may be accompanied by symptoms such as bad breath, burning and redness of the oral mucosa, and decreased appetite,” Kalandia warned.
The doctor clarified that one of the causes of plaque is a passion for food with high levels of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol. This type of diet negatively affects the balance of microflora in the oral cavity, which makes it more susceptible to fungal infections.
“The appearance of a white coating on the tongue is one of the few symptoms of the development of oral candidiasis – thrush,” said Dr. Kalania.
Speaking of other dangerous disorders in the body, a sign of which is a white coating in the mouth, the doctor listed the following pathologies:
- Gastritis.
- Pelvic ulcer.
- Pancreatitis.
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
- Diseases of the stomach and pancreas.
- Diseases of the gallbladder and biliary tract.
The expert advised to consult a doctor if a white coating appears.
