Abandon air conditioners: the Cabinet of Ministers gave instructions to officials to reduce electricity consumption

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine entrusted the state authorities with the task of reducing electricity consumption.
“We are working to reduce consumption. Let's start with ourselves. All state authorities are tasked with reducing electricity consumption. We are adopting the relevant government order today,” said Shmyhal.
According to him, ministries, central bodies of executive power, regional state administrations should abandon the use of air conditioners, external lighting of buildings and the surrounding area. In addition, law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, and other state agencies were recommended to take similar steps. Local authorities should limit street lighting.
“We urge businesses to also limit the use of air conditioners and other energy-intensive equipment that is not critical for production,” the prime minister noted.
However, he said that the exception will be the use of air conditioners in hospitals and enterprises where air conditioning is part of the production process.
Power outages in Ukraine
Due to targeted Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure forced the energy industry to introduce blackout schedules. However, due to exceeding the limits of electricity use, emergency shutdowns are also periodically introduced.
Against this background, Ukrainians are asked to take a more responsible approach to electricity consumption – if possible, not to use air conditioners, and to do household chores outside of peak load hours.
