Abdominal bloating is often occurs after a large amount of food, but it can also be a symptom of an illness.

Foods as a cause of bloating

Feeling distended in the stomach is not entirely pleasant. But at least it is mostly harmless and has no pathological cause. If you feel full after eating, this is considered a symptom of an overworked stomach. Then a feeling of distension in the upper part of the abdomen or a feeling of distension in the stomach is typical.

It mainly occurs after eating very fatty food, such as fried food, fatty sauces or cream cakes. But foods such as cabbage, onions, beans, peas can also cause flatulence, as gases are produced in the intestinal area. Food intolerances can also cause bloating. Diarrhea and gas are other signs of intolerance to food ingredients such as lactose, gluten, or fructose.

Physical Illnesses as Causes of Fullness

Feeling full can also occur without food or after eating a normal sized meal. Then this is a sign of the disease:

  • Intestinal dysfunction, for example, in the case of irritable bowel syndrome, manifests itself, among other things, in a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen or in the intestinal area.
  • Disrupted intestinal microflora may be the reason if you constantly feel full and have a large stomach.
  • Feeling full, nausea and pain in the upper abdomen may be symptoms of inflammation of the gastric mucosa.
  • An irritated stomach causes bloating, heartburn and gas.
  • A fatty liver often causes pressure and bloating in the liver area.
