One of the simplest diets – Scandinavian – can reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood, even if the weight does not decrease. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).
Danish scientists studied the analyzes of 200 overweight volunteers over the age of 50 from six centers in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland, taken during a four-week period when people followed your usual diet. Then, for 19–24 weeks, half of the participants followed a Scandinavian diet and half followed a control diet. Both diets are calculated in such a way that the study participants maintain a stable weight. After that, they took the tests again.
“The group that was on the Scandinavian diet for six months became significantly healthier, – says one of the authors of the study, nutritionist Lars Ove Dragsted of the University of Copenhagen. – Its participants had lower cholesterol levels, lower total levels of both saturated and unsaturated fats in the blood, better regulation of glucose levels. how rich the Scandinavian diet is, writes EurekAlert. It has more healthy omega-3 and omega-6 unsaturated fats. “We can confirm that the absence of highly processed food and a lower amount of saturated fats of animal origin have a positive effect,” concludes the specialist.
