Agronomists explained the interdependence of onion seed size and shoot speed

No one will tell you about this in gardening stores and markets. In any season, because the commercial goal comes first. That is why agronomists have shared information that will help you buy the right onion seedling for planting before winter and in spring.

Why seedling size is important

Agronomists note that large and small specimens of seedlings are good, but in different seasons. Before winter and spring, you need to plant seedlings of different sizes.

For beds before winter, gardeners prefer exclusively small seedlings. This is the one that will be able to survive the cold weather and grow in spring. If you are not growing for a feather, but are counting on a large onion crop, then you will have it. It is from small seedlings that onions will not shoot. For this, the seedling should be no more than 1 cm in size.

Why are large seedlings worse? They already have enough nutrients accumulated. They will quickly grow and germinate after winter. In particular, large bulbs will not form.

So, the conclusion is as follows. Before winter, you need to plant small seedlings. In spring, you can plant larger ones. In this case, you can get different onions, but of the same large size.
