Alcohol doubles the risk of stroke within 1 hour – from beer to vodka

Studies have shown that just one drink can more than double the risk of stroke within one hour of consumption.
A stroke is a serious life-threatening condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. The wrong lifestyle can trigger a stroke.
The risk of stroke doubles an hour after drinking just one drink – wine, beer or spirits.
The effect of alcohol on the risk of ischemic stroke seems to depend depending on how much and how often you drink.
Researchers did not know whether alcohol consumption had a direct effect on ischemic stroke (caused by a blood clot in a blood vessel leading to the brain), although moderate alcohol consumption (less than two servings per day) may potentially lower the risk in the long term.
Compared to when no alcohol was consumed, the relative risk of stroke after drinking alcohol in the first hour was 2.3 times higher.
The risk is 1.6 times higher in the second hour; and 30 percent below baseline (start of study) at 24 hours. The results remained the same regardless of whether the participants drank wine, beer or distilled spirits.
When the researchers excluded patients who had experienced other potential triggers (such as vigorous exercise or drinking caffeinated beverages) immediately before the stroke , the connection with alcohol has not changed.
