They help fight with “aging eyesight”.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved new eye drops to help fight presbyopia, also known as presbyopia. These are age-related problems with focusing on nearby objects that most people over the age of 40 experience.
According to the American edition of CBS News, a drug called Vuity is coming to market and is positioned as the first FDA-approved presbyopia drops. . They begin to work as early as 15 minutes after application, narrowing the patient's pupil and allowing vision to focus on nearby objects. Manufacturers claim that the effect of one drop will last for 6-10 hours.
The drug is recommended for use by people aged 40-55 years. During a 3-month clinical trial involving 750 volunteers, side effects of the drops were revealed: headache and red eyes.
However, the feedback from the test group was positive. CBS News quotes 54-year-old trial participant Toni Wright as saying: “It's really life-changing. It used to be difficult for me to accept that I was getting older and needed to wear glasses almost all the time. Now I rely on them much less, especially when I use the computer, which I couldn't do without the glasses. The drug is positioned not as a treatment, but as a temporary relief of the symptoms of presbyopia. It is suitable for moderate cases and is not recommended for use while driving at night.
These drops are already available for sale in the US. The monthly package was valued at $80 (≈2,200 hryvnias).
