Most people notice that their weight changes with age: extra pounds appear much easier, and getting rid of them becomes much more difficult. Doctor-endocrinologist Kateryna Kazachkova explained what is associated with gaining excess weight after 40 years and how to avoid it.
The doctor reminded that with the onset of a certain age, the level of sex hormones begins to decrease – this is the main reason why most people after the age of 40 gain weight more actively.
Against the background of a decrease in the hormonal background, you want to eat more, and after eating, all excess energy is collected in fat deposits. A special role is played by the fact that after the age of 40 many people's level of physical activity decreases, life in general becomes more measured, said Kazachkova.
Accordingly, in order to avoid gaining excess weight after the age of 40, it is necessary to maintain a certain level of physical activity , the expert noted. If, for example, at the age of 30, only one visit to the gym per week is enough, then after the age of 40, the classes should be more frequent and also regular in order to burn fat and strengthen muscles.
If you ignore this recommendation , after 40 years a person will not only gain extra weight, but also lose muscle mass. According to Kozachkova, in the absence of training with the onset of the 40th birthday, you can lose 15% of muscles in 15 years.
