Surgeon-oncologist Mykhailo Myasnyankin said that tongue cancer not only affects the patient's quality of life, but can also deprive him of the ability to speak and eat.
The main risk factor is bad habits, especially smoking, if it is combined with strong alcohol, the doctor warned. Chewing various mixtures and accompanying diseases, for example, fissures on the tongue, leukoplakia, as well as chronic infections of the oral cavity and damage to the mucous membrane of the tongue can lead to the development of this disease.
In addition, the oncologist noted, it is important to take care of the teeth – rotten roots or poor-quality prostheses, according to him, can provoke tongue cancer.
Among the symptoms, Myasnyankin singled out the appearance of a nodule or crack and the occurrence of unpleasant sensations in the mucous membrane.
“In advanced stages, foul-smelling breath, tumor destruction, bruising, and bleeding are possible,” the specialist added.
