Ophthalmologist spoke about four vitamins to maintain normal vision

The doctor believes that it is very important to maintain a balance of vitamins for eye health. With their deficiency, the risk of developing dangerous diseases increases. “Carrots are very good for the eyes. This is explained by the fact that they contain a lot of vitamin A. It is useful for both the cornea and the retina,” the specialist said. With a lack of vitamin A in the body, vision deteriorates if the lighting is poor. “This can be improved by increasing vitamin A levels,” the doctor noted. Sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cheese, and eggs are also suitable for this.

B vitamins, including B6, B12, and folic acid, help maintain healthy eyes and prevent age-related macular degeneration. This condition is accompanied by deterioration of the retina, which provokes blurred vision. B vitamins can reduce the level of homocysteine in the blood, which is an acid that affects the arteries of the retina. A deficiency of B vitamins leads to problems with the optic nerve. This tissue is responsible for transmitting images from the eye to the brain. Its deficiency is accompanied by decreased vision or the appearance of blind spots. Peanuts, chicken, soybeans, and oats are enriched with vitamin B6.

Cataracts are considered one of the causes of vision loss with age. “Vitamins C and E are powerful antioxidants. They help prevent the occurrence of this disease,” Garg noted. According to the scientists who conducted the study, taking at least 140 mg of vitamin C per day helps prevent the onset of the disease. The doctor reported that excessive use of the vitamin increases the risk of cataracts in men who are obese and have bad habits. Sweet peppers, strawberries, oranges and broccoli contain vitamin C.
