The wrong pillow can significantly reduce the quality sleep, which can ultimately affect the length of human life.
Good, quality sleep is vital to longevity. When a person sleeps, their brain works on the physical restoration of the body and regulates important hormones responsible for the functioning of the body during the day.
The specialist emphasized that lack of sleep is a known risk factor for the development of brain diseases, which shortens a person's life. Due to poor sleep or lack of sleep, the tendency to depression, anxiety, as well as dementia increases.
If we don't get enough or prolonged sleep, our bodies lose the ability to repair themselves during the night. Full quality sleep is necessary for the brain to have time to wash away the accumulation of amyloid plaques that cause the development of Alzheimer's disease.
Sleep less than seven hours a day is associated not only with an increased risk of degenerative disorders, but also with the risk of mortality from all reasons.
One of the conditions that ensure a good sleep is the availability of the right mattress and pillows, the neurologist clarified. In particular, the pillow is designed for a healthy alignment of the head, neck and spine – it fills the cervical curve, easing the load on the spine and promoting better blood flow to the brain.
When a person sleeps on the right pillow, his brain is more effectively cleansed during the night from destructive amyloid plaques – this prolongs her health and activity, and therefore contributes to the prolongation of life in general.
“If you waking up with a stiff neck, headaches and migraines, this may be a sign that you need to change your pillow,” said the expert.
A lumpy pillow, or one that lacks fluff or smells, also needs to be replaced .
