And the clock is ticking: the age when it is better for men to have children has been named

Men really do have a biological clock. Yes, first-time fathers aged 40+ are less fertile, their partners also have more complications during pregnancy, and their children have worse health.

The study, conducted by Rutgers University, is the latest in this field. Men should start having children before the age of 35 to avoid harming the health of their partner and children, the study authors say.

The team also found that men over 45 are less fertile, and their wives have a higher risk of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and premature birth.

Babies of such fathers were more likely to be born prematurely or stillborn, had poor general health and low birth weight.

Scientists believe this may be due to the natural decline in testosterone levels with age, suggesting that conceiving earlier or using sperm later may reduce the health risks for the mother and child.
