April 25, 2024: Apostle Mark – what not to do today
Today you can't give someone advice and pour out water unnecessarily. If the weather is clear today, it will be a hot summer.
What happened today?
Today, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the apostle and evangelist Mark. He was one of the 70 apostles and lived in Jerusalem. Apostle Peter led him to Christ. When Peter and Mark were in Rome, the Christians asked Mark to write down everything he knew about the Lord – this is how the Gospel of Mark appeared. The saint also preached in Egypt, where he founded one of the first churches. However, the pagans who prevailed in Egypt decided to kill Mark during a holy festival that coincided with Easter. They broke into the temple after the service, grabbed the apostle and tortured him for a long time. The saint died, praying to God and expressing gratitude for his suffering.
