Senile dementia is neurodegenerative disease accompanied by loss of memory and cognitive abilities. Lack of anti-inflammatory products in the diet increases the risk of this problem.
Numerous studies show that diet plays a huge role in the risk of senile dementia. The risk of dementia increases three times in those who do not have enough fruits, vegetables, beans and tea in their diet.
1,059 people participated in the study and were followed for about three years. They lived on the territory of 11 countries. Their diet was evaluated based on the volunteers' own stories.
The diet of the study participants included standard dairy products, cereals, fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, legumes, added fats, alcoholic beverages and sweets.
Scientists used the so-called dietary inflammatory index to calculate inflammatory indicators, usually ranging from -8.87 to 7.98. The higher the numbers, the more inflammation the diet caused.
It has been proven that diets with a minimum of fruits, vegetables, beans, tea and coffee had the highest inflammatory index. An increase in this index by just one point corresponded to a 21% increase in the risk of dementia. This means that nutrition still really plays a huge role in this issue.
