Back pain and hernias can occur due to smartphone use

Sports doctor: intervertebral hernias, radiculopathy and other back problems can be a consequence of frequent use of a smartphone.

The doctor said in an interview: people who do not let go of the smartphone from their hands develop a specific posture, known as the SMART posture.

“The head is tilted forward and down, the shoulders are hunched, the arm is bent at the elbow. At the same time, a person does not raise the phone face to face, but lowers his face to the phone,” the specialist clarified.

The sports doctor noted that a person who develops a SMART posture is susceptible to various neurological disorders. One of them is tunnel syndrome – a disorder characterized by problems with the mobility of the hands, hands, pain and numbness in them due to a pinched nerve.

Another typical problem associated with the use of a smartphone is cervical osteochondrosis. The need to keep the neck in a certain position while working with the gadget increases the load on the spine many times over, which threatens the consequences in the form of various problems with the back.

“Complications can be intervertebral hernias, back pain – lumbago, sciatica, radiculopathy”. – specified the doctor.

The doctor added that the distorted posture that occurs in the most avid smartphone users provokes chronic headaches and neck pain. In addition, negative changes with the spine in them can contribute to the displacement of internal organs.
