Drinking two glasses of beer a day may reduce the risk of senile dementia. Such an interesting conclusion was reached by researchers from Australia.
Scientists warn that daily consumption of beer can reduce the risk of dementia. They studied the prevalence of alcohol use and rates of senile dementia among 25,000 people aged 60 and over. If people drank about two glasses a day, they were a third less likely to suffer from memory disorders than non-drinkers.
Never-drinkers had the greatest risk of senile dementia – their risk increased by 20%, compared to those who did. , who drained three mugs per evening. According to the researchers, their results show that abstinence from alcohol does not appear to protect against dementia.
However, other experts point out that while moderate amounts of alcohol can somewhat prevent the severe disorder, excessive consumption is even more dangerous. . To minimize the health risks of alcohol, men and women are advised to regularly consume no more than 14 units of alcohol per week. One unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol, which is about half a glass of beer with a strength of 3.6%, 25 ml of spirits with a strength of 40%, as well as a small glass of 125 ml of wine with a strength of 12% every day.
