Although visceral fat vital to our body as it protects and insulates organs, excess can be harmful. Unlike subcutaneous fat, which is found under the skin, it's hard to tell how much visceral fat you have because it's stored deep in your abdomen.
Visceral fat is especially dangerous because it's known as active fat and plays a role in our endocrine system, increasing insulin resistance, putting you at risk for diabetes, stroke, heart attacks and cancer. The good news is that visceral fat can be reversed quickly with exercise and a few dietary changes.
A nutritionist shares her secret to controlling portion sizes.
“Look at your size. portions,” she said. “Be honest about it. Use your fist as a guide: one fist-sized serving of protein, two servings of vegetables or salad, and one serving of carbohydrates, such as whole-grain pasta, brown rice or beans,” says the expert.
The doctor shared other tips for diets to combat visceral fat.
Cut out trans fats and sugary drinks

Keep your gut healthy
