Benefits of sleeping in socks revealed

Wearing socks before going to bed can help you fall asleep faster, said somnologist Mar de Carlo.

According to de Carlo, this effect can be explained by the flow of blood to the tissues. “Changes in skin temperature affect falling asleep and staying asleep. Socks worn to bed stimulate blood circulation and blood flow to the feet, which helps lower overall body temperature and sends a signal to the brain about sleep,” the specialist said.

Another advantage of wearing socks to bed, de Carlo called the reduced risk of Raynaud’s syndrome — a painful spasm of the blood vessels in the hands in response to cold or emotional stress. In addition, the somnologist continued, menopausal women who wear socks to bed cope better with hot flashes.
